On Day 2 I painted a couple of taxidermied deer heads and a bass on the wall behind The Juice. These items were a veritable walk in the park compared with his face, but they took hours to paint as well. I really think they make this portrait strange, awesome, and kind of hilarious given The Juice’s deer-in-the-headlights expression. This is an actual western Illinois barbershop where The Juice and his brother get their hair cut. Their mother reports, “My husband gets his hair cut at Dick’s Barbershop, so the boys do too. Dick always gives them a quarter for being such good lads and you ought to SEE the rest of this place. Dead animals abound. Very Twin Peaks type of place.”
